Trying to make amends. Now that Meghan Markle has given birth to her first child with Prince Harry, the former actress’s estranged sister is speaking out about the newborn and her family for the first time.

“I’m already an aunt and am lucky enough to have Thomas and Tyler as my nephews,” Samantha Markle told DailyMailTV on Wednesday, May 8. “I spent a lot of time with them when they were babies, and I love them. Family is family.”

“What I think is incredible is that it’s a great moment historically, and although the adults have a lot of water under the bridge, I would really like to see everyone reach out,” the 54-year-old noted. “We’ve extended the olive branch, and now it’s Meghan’s turn.”

Things between the half-siblings have been even more strained since the now duchess started dating Prince Harry, though the two last spoke in 2008. Samantha has slammed both her half-sister and the royal. She even penned an unflattering tell-all titled The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister, and compared the duchess to Cruella de Vil. Not surprisingly, she wasn’t invited to the royal wedding in 2018.

Meghan has also become estranged from their dad, Thomas Markle, after he was caught staging photos with the paparazzi in 2017, and did not attend her wedding. He has also spoken ill of his duchess daughter and the royal family. He was not contacted after Meghan gave birth, and learned that he had a grandson at the same time as the rest of the world.

Samantha pointed out that even though baby Archie, who was born on May 6, is a royal, he’s also a Markle and should be able to get to know the other half of his family.

“We’re all welcoming the baby — Markles, Raglands, Sussexes, Windsors,” she told DailyMailTV. “In terms of the gene pool, we’ve all made a contribution to this wonderful little boy who will probably grow up to be an exceptional man, and we’d like to treat this as if we’re all a big family.”

“I want him to know he’s got a big family, and he’s part of an amazing historical time, and we’re excited for him,” Samantha added. “We’re excited for Meg and Harry. I am really excited for her! I love her. She’s my baby sister, and it doesn’t matter what we’ve all said back and forth, but she’s got to do the right thing.”

“I just want to say, Meg, you’ve got a world here and a family here that’s excited for you,” Samantha pointed out.

While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have cut off the Markles, they haven’t done the same with Meghan’s mother. Doria Ragland flew to London ahead of her grandson’s birth, and has been by Meghan and Harry’s side, even attending the first meeting between Queen Elizabeth and little Archie.

The palace has also welcomed Ragland with open arms, including her in the birth announcement.
