Princess Diana’s Lover: Affair Was Prince Charles’ Idea

Princess Diana was unfaithful to Prince Charles — but one of her lovers insists that it was her husband's idea!

James Hewitt is still considered a cad for attempting to sell private love letters from Diana after her death — and the red-headed former British army officer has also sparked plenty of rumors about Prince Harry's parentage. But his most shocking claim was that Charles was eager for Diana to take a lover!

The playboy horseman insisted that he was "set up" to get close to Diana by serving as her riding instructor in 1981, which would help Charles find time to slip away with his illicit lover Camilla Parker Bowles! But, he added, "something went terribly wrong. We fell in love!"

The ex-cavalryman says that Diana and Charles soon had "an unspoken arrangement" built around their travel schedules. Diana and Hewitt would spend torrid nights together during one weekend at Charles' country estate, and then Camilla would join the prince there the next weekend.

"She felt trapped in the palace system, and fantasized about being a soldier's wife," added Hewitt — who also believes Diana had six other lovers during her royal marriage.

He includes Diana's bodyguard Barry Manakee among them, with the policeman dying in 1987 when involved in a motorcycle accident.

And while Hewitt was later mocked for speaking openly about his affair, Diana still confirmed their romance in a notorious television interview shortly after her divorce. "Yes, I adored him," she said. "Yes, I was in love with him!"
