Earlier that evening, Nicole had joined her mother for dinner at the Mezzaluna restaurant after having seen
her volatile ex-husband at the Revere Junior High School in Brentwood — where their daughter had performed in a recital. Ron,
who was a friend of Nicole and a waiter at the restaurant, greeted them.

Her mother later realized she'd left her glasses behind at the restaurant. "Nicole's parents called Mezzaluna. Sure enough, they'd located the missing glasses," said a family insider. Ron had finished his shift and volunteered to take the glasses to Nicole's home.

Nicole invited Ron into her living room when he arrived — and police said that, unknown to the two,
O.J. was lurking just outside. "We believe Simpson crouched in the bushes six yards from the front door of Nicole's town house, waiting for the right moment to pounce!"

"Then Nicole," said the police insider, "barefoot and in a nightdress, brought Goldman out the front door about 10:30 p.m. — and Simpson leaped forward."

Homicide detectives on the case believe that Simpson first attacked Goldman, who put his hands up in a vain effort to protect himself. He fought furiously for his life, but
was slashed across his throat and received multiple stab wounds.

Added the source: "Detectives believe Simpson then attacked Nicole with such speed that she didn't have time to scream. Having witnessed what was happening to Goldman, it's believed she was frozen in terror."

"The injury Simpson inflicted on Nicole was horrendous," said the source, with
Nicole's troubling autopsy photos backing the insider's claims. "He almost decapitated her. The wound through her neck reached the spinal cord."

Nicole died within three or four seconds after the gaping wound cut off the blood flow to her brain, said a medical insider. Simpson also mutilated his ex-wife's breasts and inflicted other stab wounds on her body, according to sources.

The crumpled body of Nicole was found on its side 18 feet from her front door, lying in a pool of drying blood. Ron's body was found in nearby bushes a few feet away. He'd been stabbed eight times in the neck and chest, and had several slash wounds on his hands and arms.

Nicole's pet dog, a white Akita, left tracks through the blood as it ran around barking furiously after the murders. She had either brought the dog outside with her, or it had run out of the house at the time of the attack, said insiders.

Detectives theorized that Simpson then slipped back to his white Bronco — similar to a car that was outside of Nicole's home that night, according to a neighborhood jogger.

Sources said blood matching the athlete's blood type was found at the murder scene. Blood matching Nicole's type was found in a sink at O.J.'s home, and the bloody glove found at the murder site matched one found on O.J.'s estate.

In addition, bloodstained clothing
reportedly was discovered at O.J.'s home. On June 17, 1994, police filed murder charges against O.J. After later leading the cops on a nationally-televised freeway chase, the disgraced football star surrendered at his home.

Three days later, the fallen hero was arraigned and asked how he pleaded to the double murder charges. In a quiet voice, O.J. replied: "Not guilty."
