Although the findings may bring closure to the families of the victims, Kristin Smart and Evelyn Hernandez, the smug slayer may still have the last laugh — it’s unlikely Peterson will ever be executed for his heinous crimes under current California death row rules.

After more than 20 years of dogged work, the first breakthrough came in 2016 when police exhumed bones believed to be Peterson’s former California Polytechnic State University classmate Kristin. Test results on the remains have never been made public — a strong indication they’ve been entered into evidence.

Kristin (left), 19, disappeared after a drunken party in 1996 — and Peterson’s sister suspected he'd killed her! In her book, “Blood Brother: 33 Reasons My Brother Scott Peterson Is Guilty,” estranged sibling Anne Bird described how before Peterson was arrested in Laci’s killing, their mother, Jackie, mentioned he and Kristin had classes together at Cal Poly.

The bombshell stunned Anne, who remembered Peterson told her he’d cheated on future wife Laci while in college — giving him a motive for murder! She wrote: “Scott told me he had another affair before
Amber Frey (left) [his mistress at the time of Laci’s death], someone in [San Luis Obispo County].”

But charges were not filed because no body had been found — until now. Dennis Mahon, a family friend and volunteer who’d searched for Kristin, said, “Scott definitely has it in him to kill people. If he killed once, perhaps, he thought, ‘I got away with it, so I could do it again.’”

The murder of 24-year-old Evelyn is even more disturbing in how closely it echoes Laci’s stomach-churning end. Evelyn was also a young pregnant woman who disappeared — more than six months before Laci vanished in December 2002.

Like Laci, her body parts washed up in San Francisco Bay. Adding to the heartbreak, Evelyn’s missing five-year-old son has never been found. But police did discover one clue — her wallet in a California parking lot.

After Laci’s remains were recovered, the San Francisco Police called the Modesto Police Dept. handling Peterson’s case to alert them to Evelyn’s gruesome death.
Twiggy Damy, a friend of Evelyn’s, told The ENQUIRER: “There is a connection between the way Evelyn and
Scott’s wife died. Police asked me if Evelyn knew Scott or if she was connected to him.”

Investigators examining Laci’s death have also long pointed out that a crime of such precision didn’t appear to be the work of a first-time offender. One law enforcement source said: “It has never been established who the father of Evelyn’s baby was. These two unsolved cases look eerily like a pattern of a serial murderer killing his lovers to me.”

Peterson is currently rotting in San Quentin State Prison, and investigators may be able to pin even more crimes on him — thanks to indisputable DNA technology. “Scott Peterson is a murdering psychopath, and I would look at every cold case in the area,” said renowned private eye
Bo Dietl.

“They should look at the evidence and compare it with Scott’s DNA to see if there is a match.”
