The Oscar-winner shocked fans when Kevin revealed that he had planned a sequel to his hit film "The Bodyguard" that would have co-starred Princess Diana — who was ready to move to Hollywood while starting her new life! "She wanted me to write it for her," Kevin explained. "I said, 'I'll tailor it for you, if you're interested. She goes: 'I am interested!'"

But insiders told The National ENQUIRER that Diana was also ready to consider a Hollywood romance with her potential costar! "There was so much in 'The Bodyguard' that mirrored her own experience," said a close friend. "Whitney Houston played a beautiful, rich celebrity — Di totally identified with her. And Costner was a dream character, a strong, silent man devoted to taking care of his woman."

"She longed for someone like that in her own life," added the insider — saying Diana's former sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson reportedly first thought to bring Kevin and Di together, after meeting the actor on a trip to China. "She joked that Kevin and Di would make terrific screen lovers, and everyone looked at each other and said: 'Of course!'" revealed the source.

"When Di got wind of it," the insider continued, "she phoned the star. Naturally, he took her call. Who wouldn't be flattered to have the princess on the line? She told him how much she loved his movies and one thing led to another —
with the backing of his studio, Costner offered her the role!"

Tragically, like Kevin's original co-star in "The Bodyguard," Diana would die tragically young. Her fatal car crash in Paris happened just three days after the sequel's script was finished. "I picked it up," said Costner, "and the first 30 pages were totally her...I couldn't finish. I stopped. It broke my heart."
