Radar's excerpts include Mayte's confession that she missed the red flags that should have warned her about the rock star's double life. Despite being assured that Prince only indulged in vitamin B injections, she recalls one day in 1994 when her husband seemed “foggy” and “loopy.” “He didn’t get sick very often,” she writes. “And this felt different.” Mayte was still reassured enough to marry Prince in 1996 — only to face a new drug crisis shortly after learning she was pregnant!

Mayte claims that her husband was rushed to the hospital in 1996 after being found "passed out" by a security guard after suffering an overdose — just as she was celebrating being pregnant. “There was vomit on the floor,” she recalls, with a doctor later telling her that Prince had his stomach pumped. Her husband, however, insisted that he had simply mixed aspirin with red wine, and refused to discuss his private addictions.

“I accepted his word that it would never happen again,” writes a regretful Mayte. After the death of their newborn son later that year, however, Prince reportedly could no longer hide his drug use. Mayte recalls once finding “wine spilled on the rug in the hallway and vomit on the bathroom floor” in a hotel room, she said. She also says that Vicodin pills in the house “kept disappearing” after she was prescribed the powerful painkiller for a C-section.

“I knew he was struggling,” writes Mayte, recalling another night before their June 2000 divorce when she found him “horribly sick to his stomach” in L.A. “He told me there were pills in the hotel room,” she says. “He wanted me to go back up there and flush them down the toilet.” Sadly, Prince never gave up his addictions. The ENQUIRER later revealed how the doomed rocker managed to hide both his AIDS medications and his addiction to opiods — ending in his 2016 overdose on fentanyl, a drug at least 25 times more powerful than heroin.
