Marshall had lost his own wife to cancer in 1995, so both spouses were reliving a nightmare when doctors detected a spot on her thyroid during medical tests.

"Candice was told she couldn't take any chances," said an insider, "and that the only way to make sure the spot was not malignant was through a biopsy." The tests would come back negative that July, with Candice's publicist telling The ENQUIRER: "I'm absolutely happy to report that Candice is in excellent health,"

Insiders reported that Candice finally got back her confidence with a successful Broadway debut in a 2012 production of "The Best Man" — with the nightly performances convincing Candice that she could take on the "Murphy Brown" revival. She's also revealed that her private health battles
have inspired Candice to give up Hollywood dieting, boasting: "I am a champion eater!"
