Instead, Val says that he has "no cancer whatsoever" and has only been "rehabbing steadily" from "a swollen tongue!"

But the devout Christian Scientist refused traditional medical treatments and relied on the healing power of prayer, said insiders concerned about Val being in denial. “When he coughs," said one pal, "he interprets that as the illness leaving his body!”

Now those concerns have been revived with Val's own dismissal of Michael's claim, saying: "Some fans have mistakenly thought my silence about my personal issues meant that somehow I wasn't being responsible to my health, because of my reliance on prayer and Love."

But during his medical struggles in 2015, Kilmer had also declared that he had "no tumor or infection of any kind." And, as caught by The ENQUIRER, Val has looked frail and gaunt while sitting through recent "meet-and-greet" sessions with fans while promoting a movie where he plays Mark Twain.

Val — who frightened fans last year when going on a Facebook rant about filming a "Top Gun" sequel that doesn't exist — spoke kindly of his costar from 1996's "The Ghost and the Darkness," however. "I love Michael Douglas," said Val, "but he is misinformed."

The actor also said that he still considers Michael — who has undergone his own secret health struggles — to be "a loving and devoted friend" — but insists that he hasn't seen Michael in two years. Val added: "I'm sure he meant no harm."
