For singer Tom Jones, the sweaty hip-swinging, panty-catching days appear to be over — as the septuagenarian superstar says he’s undergone secret hip-replacement surgery!

“Tom’s future looks very bad,” said Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who has not treated the singer. “He’s paying the price for all those years of raunchy onstage gyrations.

"His sexy moves took a terrible toll on his hip joints, making it agonizing for him to walk," Dr. Mirkin told The National ENQUIRER. "The surgery was a last resort to stop his suffering.”

The "Delilah" singer abruptly canceled his U.S. tour of 18 concerts in September, five days before it was scheduled to begin, citing doctor’s orders. In October, as he was photographed using a walking stick for support, Tom tweeted about his “brand new hip.”

But Dr. Mirkin warns Tom’s new hip joint isn’t meant for high-octane concert performances. “After you have a hip replacement, you must keep moving but you can’t have any impact,” says the Florida-based physician. “There can be no sudden jarring or jumping up and down.”

The doctor warns that Tom, shown here recently with Who front-man Roger Daltrey, should be careful not to dislodge the new joint, which could lead to more surgery. "And unfortunately, the failure rate for a second operation is very high. It could leave him with crippling pain.”

Tom’s been through a tough couple of years, says a source. “This health crisis struck just a year after the death of his long-suffering wife, Linda. He was consumed with guilt over all the times he cheated on her,” says the source. “When she passed away, something died in Tom, too.”

The "It’s Not Unusual" singer had a rebound affair with old friend Priscilla Presley, say sources, but that ended when Tom came under investigation for the 1976 alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl!

Tom vows to go on tour, says a music mole, which has pals worried. “After this surgery, we fear that trying to perform like the Tom Jones of old could leave him crippled for life!”
