The "Delilah" singer abruptly canceled his U.S. tour of 18 concerts in September, five days before it was scheduled to begin, citing doctor’s orders. In October, as he was photographed using a walking stick for support, Tom tweeted about his “brand new hip.”

But Dr. Mirkin warns Tom’s new hip joint isn’t meant for high-octane concert performances. “After you have a hip replacement, you must keep moving but you can’t have any impact,” says the Florida-based physician. “There can be no sudden jarring or jumping up and down.”

The doctor warns that Tom, shown here recently with Who front-man Roger Daltrey, should be careful not to dislodge the new joint, which could lead to more surgery. "And unfortunately, the failure rate for a second operation is very high. It could leave him with crippling pain.”
