While official history records Lee Harvey Oswald as President John F. Kennedy's assassin, Stephen Jaffe — the last surviving member of New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison’s investigative team — provided The National ENQUIRER with a tape transcript that tells a very different story!

Garrison's team, the inspiration for Oliver Stone's 1991 film “JFK” and the only entity to bring charges in connection with JFK’s murder, in 1992 sent Jaffe (right) to interview ex-CIA operative Gerry Patrick Hemming (left). On the recording, Hemming described how he trained a CIA hit team to help overthrow Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

But following the bungled Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961, the team blamed JFK. During Jaffe’s interview, Hemming confessed to his role — and that of his rogue CIA kill team — in JFK’s death. Hemming, who was in Miami when he spoke to Jaffe, died in 2008. Highlights from their conversation follow....

JAFFE: Were you offered contracts to kill Kennedy? HEMMING: Yes…many… but we discounted any from people that were not financially solvent or politically connected…we were very leery…this all started in ’62.

JAFFE: How much money were you offered? HEMMING: There were some we knew weren’t serious… They didn’t know what kind of money was involved in these types of things. But it got up to a million dollars.

JAFFE: I interviewed [CIA sniper] Loran Hall, who said he wanted to kill Kennedy. Did he work for you? HEMMING: He worked with me and our instructor team. JAFFE: In 1963? HEMMING: Yes. He worked with us and other Cuban commandos, including Frank Sturgis.

JAFFE: Was Hall involved? HEMMING: Possibly. He had my weapon, my rifle, and he was in Dallas for the big event. JAFFE: Do you think Oswald was competent with a rifle? HEMMING: He didn’t know s--t about shoplifting.

JAFFE: I interviewed [CIA operative] Marita Lorenz a few months ago. She said there was a two-car caravan that drove from Miami to Dallas with the assassination team and all the weapons. Were you part of that? HEMMING: It was a three-car caravan. I know what she said and she’s telling the truth. Always did.
