David Cassidy can't lay off the booze — as friends fear the "Partridge Family" star's farewell tour is really the end! The former teen idol embarrassed himself again while launching his final live shows in Los Angeles. It was a cruel reminder that — despite David blaming arthritis for his retirement — the troubled chartbuster has also ravaged his body with decades of drinking. Now insiders have told The National ENQUIRER that they're not even sure the singer will make it through his final tour!

The '70s heartthrob officially declared: “This is not a complete goodbye, but I’m planning on working much less” — even as a longtime pal told The ENQUIRER: “David says he’s too frail now to tour any longer.” Another insider added: “His longtime history as a booze hound has taken a severe toll on his body, and he could well be suffering from fatal kidney disease!”

But — as reported earlier by The ENQUIRER — David has refused to take blame for his problems, despite a series of DUI busts and serious money problems. In 2013, David was arrested for his third DUI in four years, but managed to dodge jail time by copping to a plea deal. Shamelessly, he couldn’t understand why he was arrested in the first place, despite his reckless behavior that could have potentially killed innocent motorists!

“I didn’t hit anybody. I didn’t smash my car. I had my bright lights on. That’s why I got pulled over,” he whined back in 2014. In a legal deposition obtained by The ENQUIRER, David’s former manager and publicist, Jo-Ann Geffen, was asked whether drugs or alcohol had ever “impaired [David’s] ability to appreciate what was being said” to him. She testified, “I’d have to say yes,” adding that “his ability to recall things” was also affected.

According to the lawsuit, David told a reporter: “I deal with depression, anxiety. It comes from the external problems I’ve been dealing with.” That includes money woes, as the faded star refuses to live within his means. The sad truth came to light as David attempted to get his finances in order just as he gave up touring. A monthly operating report in his 2016 bankruptcy case revealed that David had less than $500 to his name — and earns $12,500 a month, while spending nearly twice that amount!
