Verne Troyer — beloved as "Mini Me" in the "Austin Powers" movies — ended up in the hospital after a deadly booze rampage! Now the diminutive actor is going back into rehab after surviving a bout of alcohol poisoning. It's a tragic relapse after
The National ENQUIRER first revealed Verne's battle with the bottle in 2002, when the hard-living star was downing enough alcohol to kill almost any man. But before that, The ENQUIRER had to expose Verne's drunken antics in a New York City strip club!

"He was way out of control," said an eyewitness at the Scores strip club, where Verne went wild in 2002. "Any other customer behaving like that would've been asked to leave the premises immediately!" Sources added that the star's rampage from 11 am to 3 am was fueled by shots of Jagermeister — tossed back so quickly that one staffer marveled: "He drinks like a giant!"
By December, the 32-inch-tall star had checked into Wavelengths rehab center in Malibu — with a pal crediting The ENQUIRER's other scoop about Verne being hospitalized over another bout of alcohol poisoning. "Something good came out of the bad publicity," a pal declared. "Verne's problem was finally out in the open. He realized he had to stop drinking!" Verne also had a showbiz angel helping him out — in the form of fellow addict
Robert Downey Jr.Downey — who had been attending his own weekly meetings at Wavelengths after being treated there — stepped in as the miniature movie star decided to turn his life around, the friend told The ENQUIRER at the time. "Verne feels he doesn't have to explain his feelings to Robert. When Verne feels shaky, he turns to Robert to get him over the hump. Verne is allowed to leave the rehab center for various reasons, and sometimes Robert meets up with him. "He told Verne, 'I'm there for you, brother!'"

But now Verne is back to trying to get off the booze, with a friend telling The ENQUIRER that he's always had a passion for vodka. Insiders are hoping that this will be a fresh start for Verne, who became a millionaire after starring in the "Austin Powers" movies. Although he suffers from Cartilage Hair Syndrome Hypoplasia, Verne can expect a normal lifespan — except, warned a friend: "His little body can't take this punishment!"
