Siegfried & Roy fame — may be losing his grip on reality nearly 14 years after being savagely mauled by his own tiger!

“Everyone’s wondering if Roy’s lost his mind!” a concerned insider told
The National ENQUIRER. “His brain doesn’t seem to be functioning properly. He’s not thinking straight, and he’s dreamed up this complete fantasy of what happened to him that night!”

Roy was turning 59 years old on Oct. 3, 2003 when
Montecore, a 7-year-old white Bengal tiger, seemingly turned on him during his show with partner
Siegfried Fischbacher at the Mirage casino and resort in Las Vegas. Montecore had been raised by the acclaimed magicians from the time it was a cub, yet it dragged Roy offstage by the neck!

The tiger's attack severed an artery carrying blood to the brain, and also crushed Roy’s windpipe. Frantic stagehands managed to pry the tiger’s powerful jaws from Roy’s throat. Now those close to Roy believe his confused thinking is the result of brain damage suffered during the horrific attack, said the source.

“Roy’s brain was deprived of oxygen for several minutes. It’s a clear indicator that the attack damaged his brain forever,” said the source. “Roy now says the tiger wasn’t out to hurt him and was trying to protect him because he had a stroke on stage! Montecore died three years ago, and Roy’s still grieving over him.”

The big cat’s ferocious
attack also left Roy partially paralyzed. “Roy can’t move the left side of his body, and his face is misshapen,” noted the insider. The entertainer has sought several controversial treatments in a bid to walk again, including a “Frankenstein-type experiment” at a German clinic that specializes in injecting patients with a preparation derived from calves’ blood.

Despite Roy’s condition, 77-year-old Siegfried continues to tend to his beloved partner’s every need. “Caring for Roy has been torture for Siegfried,”
confided the pal. “Siegfried has had to step away from his career, and be a nursemaid to Roy. It’s a burden, but he’s done it without complaint!”
