Russell Crowe shocked some fans when it was announced that he’d be playing disgraced FOX News boss Roger Ailes in a cable series about the news network’s shocking sex scandals — but The National ENQUIRER had already revealed how the former “Gladiator” star had fallen out of shape! The ex-sex symbol has packed on the pounds since last summer, when plans for a big-screen “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” ended with the failure of Tom Cruise’s “The Mummy.” Since then, Russell’s been eating up a storm — with these new pics from Disneyland showing that the Oscar-winning star for “A Beautiful Mind” has given up on his “beautiful bod!”

Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who hasn't treated Russell, estimates that the actor’s weight had reached a gut-busting 280 pounds by the end of 2017. The star is also in trouble over
how he's carrying that excess poundage. “He’s headed for trouble because he has too much belly fat,” warned Dr. Mirkin. “Belly fat wraps around the liver and the pancreas — and it’s all poison!”

Russell has also ravaged his body over the years with yo-yo dieting — as he would lose and gain back significant amounts of weight over short periods. The
controversial and outspoken actor would endure grueling physical training to take on macho lead roles, including his “Gladiator” warrior in 2000. The father of two also shed 50 pounds from his then-236-pound frame to play Superman’s father, Jor-El, in the 2013 flick “Man of Steel.”

Ed Sheeran,” one insider told The ENQUIRER. “Ed said that he saw Russell drink a full bottle of gin one night!” But while Russell's now in shape to play Ailes, Dr. Mirkin warns that yo-yo dieting takes a life-threatening toll. “Each time you lose weight, you lose fat and muscle,” he said. “That’s how yo-yo diets kill — they replace muscle with fat!”
