Judy Garland had a secret affair with
Frank Sinatra — that would lead to the tragic diva being brutally beaten!
The National ENQUIRER exposed the sordid Hollywood romance, as revealed in doomed Judy's own tragic diaries. Then the sad story was once again brought to light when a love letter that she wrote to Ol' Blue Eyes also
went up for auction! Photo credit: Getty/Files
Boston-based RR Auction put the short note on the auction block — from when Judy, then married to director Vincente Minnelli, reportedly sent the letter after the couple had been together in the Hamptons. “You said today that you’d been negligent," wrote Judy, "But darling — that’s so unimportant compared to the great amount of happiness you’ve given me. I shan’t forget the hours we’ve spent together — ever!”

Judy's time with Frank in the Hamptons was the start of their occasional romance. As revealed in her diaries, they began the affair in 1949 while she was checked into a “rehabilitation center” against her will. In another letter during that same stay in the Hamptons, Judy had written Frank: "Darling, My sudden departure is a complete surprise to me, and I'm deeply disappointed to have to miss our Monday & Tuesday date. However its imperative that I reach Boston by Sunday" — with her even adding that Frank could find her at the local Ritz-Carlton staying with Vincente.

Insiders recalled that Frank found her too needy during that time time, though. He wasn't interested in saving Judy from her increasingly fragile marriage to Vincente. The lovers would reunite in 1955, though, after Frank had divorced
Ava Gardner. Judy had married former boxer Sid Luft — who was far less understanding of any affairs, and brutally beat Judy when he learned that she was still seeing the singer!

Frank always remained dedicated to Judy, though. His wife Barbara remembered how the singer became furious when a man in a restaurant once said of Judy: "Who's the broad?" As Barbara recalled: “Frank was so indignant on Judy’s behalf that he pushed the man into a phone booth, punched him, and slid the door shut.”

Frank even sent
Liza Minnelli $500 when she struck out alone to New York City to work in the theater — although the proud aspiring star returned the money. And after Judy died tragically in 1969
from a drug overdose at the age of 47, rumors persisted that Frank himself had paid for the financially-strapped star's funeral.
