As earlier reported by The National ENQUIRER, McCabe's reputation took a big hit when intimate texts were leaked between FBI agent Peter Strzok and attorney Lisa Page. In a bombshell message on Aug. 15, 2016, message, Strzok candidly confessed that the Trump-Russia probe was nothing more than an “insurance policy” in case the Republican won the election. Strzok wrote to Page: “I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office that there’s no way he gets elected. But I’m afraid we can’t take that risk.”

D.C. insiders on both sides of the aisle believed that the text's reference to "Andy" was actually a reference to McCabe. A top Capitol Hill source for The ENQUIRER said: “The fact they were discussing this in McCabe’s office is troubling. It suggests he might have been involved. If that’s so, this conspiracy went all the way to the top of the FBI!”

McCabe had other problems, too — including Trump declaring that the FBI Deputy Director “got $700,000” from Hillary Clinton. The president was questioning McCabe's impartiality after his wife Jill made an unsuccessful run for a seat in the Virginia Senate in 2015. She received a shocking total of $675,288 in donations from two groups closely associated with Virginia governor — and longtime Clinton confidante — Terry McAuliff.

The Department of Justice had started an investigation into the unusually large donation for a State Senate seat. McCabe had earlier announced that he would be leaving his position in March 2017. In a surprising twist, the announcement of his immediate resignation came days after reports that new FBI Director Christopher Wray had threatened to resign over White House officials wanting McCabe to be fired.
