Bananas bridegroom Nicolas Cage’s quickie annulment has left the chaplain who conducted his wedding completely dumbfounded!
The Oscar-winning Leaving Las Vegas star, 55, and Erika Koike, 34, grabbed global headlines after tying the knot in a Sin City wedding chapel on March 23.
But just 96 hours later, the Gone in 60 Seconds star claimed they were too blitzed for it to stick!
In his request for an annulment, the actor said both he and makeup artist Erika had been boozing “to the point of intoxication” on the day they tied the knot.
Now, in an exclusive interview with The National ENQUIRER, Rev. Phil York insists the cracked lovebirds were as sober as judges when they took their vows!
“He was quiet and serious. I looked him straight in the eye when I asked the question and they both said, ‘I do,’” Rev. York, 75, told The ENQUIRER.
“I always look for slurred speech or if people are wobbling around, but I didn’t see anything untoward.
“By license, if we think that they’re too drunk or drugged, we can’t go through with the ceremony. I was dumbfounded when I heard that he asked for an annulment!”
According to Rev. York, neither the bride nor the groom had any relatives on hand, and a video technician had to be called on to stand in as a witness.
“We usually shoot a video, but they didn’t want one,” Rev. York revealed. “That’s too bad because you would have seen how they both looked me straight in the eye when they said, ‘I do!’”
Nic’s application for an annulment also charged Erika had failed to disclose “the full nature and extent of her criminal history.”
What’s more, video footage of the pair having a vicious fight outside their Las Vegas hotel emerged just hours after the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Nic’s latest marital misadventure has left Rev. York confused.
“I would really like to talk to him about this,” Rev. York told The ENQUIRER. “I imagine he is quite embarrassed by the whole thing.
“I would like to say to him: ‘Nic, what happened? You both TOLD me you wanted to get married.’ I’d like him to tell me what really happened.”
