The body of David Gest — who enjoyed brief fame during his 16-month marriage to Liza Minnelli— has been found in his hotel room at London’s Four Seasons hotel.
Police have only said that there are no “suspicious circumstances” behind the death of the 62-year-old producer.
Gest married Liza — currently suffering her own health crisis — in a lavish wedding on March 16, 2002. The couple were officially separated by March of 2003.
During those years, The National ENQUIRER had plenty to cover from the couple’s wild antics —with Liza declaring that she was enjoying “the best sex” she ever had, and the couple suing the VH1 television network for a reality show that went wrong!
Sadly, the divorce lasted much longer than the marriage.
Within months of David leaving Liza, he filed a $ 10 million civil lawsuit against her — claiming she had beat him up so badly during drunken rages that he had brain damage!
He stated in court papers that her physical abuse had left him in “unrelenting pain” and that he needed 11 prescription medications a day.
Liza, then 62, denied David’s claims and filed for divorce.
She then filed a $ 2 million countersuit against David, 55, claiming that he stole from her and verbally abused her.
After the divorce, David enjoyed some more fame as a reality-show figure in the UK. He frequently dismissed rumors that he was gay.
Earlier this year, David had appeared on the UK edition of “Celebrity Big Brother” as a contestant.
The show began on January 5. Confused viewers noticed that he rarely got out of bed.
David finally left the house on January 18, only saying: “I’ve been so sick, and I’m really sad as I wish I could stay.”
At the time of his death, David had been planning to host a series of music events called “The David Gest Is Not Dead But Alive With Soul Tour.”
