Schooltime For Baby Pandas At First Day Of Kindergarten

It’s been sheer panda-monium at the Chengdu Research Base in China, where 15 cuddly new cubs have had their first day of “kindergarten!”

The adorable fur balls were bred by artificial insemination and graduated from the breeding center in a ceremony 100 days after their birth.

This group, including six sets of twins, has been lovingly nurtured by staffers through their fragile first months.

The someday-to-be-giant cuties are on the endangered species list, with less than 1,900 giant pandas currently living in the wild, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

The Chengdu center was established in 1987 to bulk up the global population. It started with just six pandas rescued from the wild. Over the last 20 years, it’s successfully bred 172 newborns, and today loans out the animals to top zoos all over the world!

These cubbies weighed only 4 ounces at birth, but will crush the scales at an average 250 pounds and stand up to
3 feet tall when fully grown.
