A Texas highway driver was hit in the neck by a large metal object — and died!

Paul Hoffman was driving his Ford SUV along Highway 146 when he was suddenly struck in the neck by a 10-inch long industrial-sized bolt — that smashed through his front windshield at a high rate of speed!

The bolt sliced his neck causing him to veer off onto the left shoulder of the highway and into the guardrail separating the northbound and southbound lanes. Emergency crews came upon the scene and had Hoffman transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

The object is known as a ‘twistlock’ that enables truckers to fasten their hauls without the use of chains or straps. Most container trucks are usually fastened by at least four twistlocks, and it is common to find them along the roadways within industrial areas. Police believe it may have flown off a truck heading in the opposite direction across the highway.

The victim’s wife stated that her husband was a ‘wonderful man’, and ‘it still hasn’t sunk in that he’s gone!”
