The legendary scientist was wheelchair-bound and required a keyboard to speak, but still became an international celebrity with the success of his book "A Brief History of Time." That would lead to cameo appearances on shows including "The Big Bang Theory," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and "The Simpsons." The 22-year-old genius was diagnosed with motor neuron disease while getting his doctorate. His wife Jane looked after him for decades, but the couple abruptly divorced in 1995 amid rumors that she'd had an affair with a choirmaster. That same year, however, Hawking married his longtime nurse Elaine Mason — as she left her engineer husband David Mason, who had invented the scientist's voice machine!

Elaine would file for divorce from Hawking in 2006 — amid more rumors that the genius had cheated on his wife with another of his caregivers. Those claims were denied by the scientist's reps. The National ENQUIRER, however, revealed that the renowned physicist remained obsessed with heavenly bodies right through his final years!

Insiders told RADAR Online in 2012 that Hawking — then teaching at Cambridge University — was a regular at the California sex club Freedom Acres, where "naked women [would] grind on him." Said one eyewitness: "Last time I saw him, he was in the back 'play area' laying on a bed fully clothed with two naked women gyrating all over him."

A rep at Cambridge only said: "It is not true that Prof. Hawking is a 'regular'" at Freedom Acres. Hawking, however, passed away with his reputation intact as a ladies' man. Peter Stringfellow, who runs the notorious Stringfellow's gentlemen's club in London, mourned Hawking as his "all-time favorite celebrity" and "a really inspirational man."
