Pink is opening up about a very dark part of her past. The musician just recently released her album, Hurts 2B Human, and now, she’s getting candid about the deeper meanings behind the songs.
In fact, she revealed that one of her songs, “Happy,” recalled an extremely emotional time in her life — when she suffered a miscarriage at age 17. Click through the gallery above for the heartbreaking details.

The lyrics to her hit tune "Happy" read: “Since I was 17, I’ve always hated my body / and it feels like my body’s hated me.” And so it turns out, the singer was looking back at a super emotional time in her life when she sang those words.

“The reason I said [that] is because I’ve always had this very tomboy, very strong gymnast body, but actually at 17 I had a miscarriage,” Pink told
USA Today. “And I was going to have that child.”

“But when that happens to a woman or a young girl, you feel like your body hates you and like your body is broken, and it’s not doing what it’s supposed to do,” she continued.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only miscarriage Pink has suffered in her life. “I’ve had several miscarriages since, so I think it’s important to talk about what you’re ashamed of, who you really are and the painful s—t. I’ve always written that way.”

The 39-year-old is able to cope with those difficult times in her life by attending therapy and writing music. She also noted how important it is to talk about mental health.

“I’m hopeful that the taboo of it is all going away, because more and more people are talking about it,” she revealed on
Today on Friday, April 26. “I think talking about it is the most important thing and I know that anxiety is like, the number one thing that kids now are going through.”
“For my generation, I feel like it was depression and suicide, and suicide is super prevalent still, but now it’s like it comes from a place of anxiety," Pink added.

“And I get that, I fully understand that and I’ve been depressed, I have anxiety,” the mom-of-two concluded. “I over-think everything. But what I do is I keep the right people around me, and I go to therapy.”
