The bitter comic — who
passed away at the age of 91 on Aug. 20, 2017 — blasted Joan during an appearance at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival — saying: "Joan Rivers and I have not always been the greatest of friends...There are those that we must understand, those that we must forgive — and those that we must hope pass on quickly"

Insiders told
The National ENQUIRER that Jerry was still fuming over Joan's 1991 autobiography, "Still Talking," where she had blasted Lewis while recalling an appearance her made in 1969 on her local early talk show called, "That Show."

"Jerry Lewis, when he was a movie star, came on our dumb little show like the big king, demanding everything," dished Joan. "He arrived late, full of being Jerry Lewis. He wanted a bigger dressing room. He wanted champagne. He wanted flowers. Two-thirds of the way through the show, he looked at his watch and said, 'I've got to go,' and walked out."

Things got even uglier in June 2014, when Jerry boasted of going after Joan again, boasting of writing her a note that served as a death threat: "I said, ‘Dear Ms. Rivers, we’ve never met, and I’m looking forward to keeping it that way. If you find it necessary to discuss me, my career, or my kids ever again, I promise you I will get somebody from Chicago to beat your goddamn head off.”

Joan announced she was taking that seriously, too, saying: “Done — never talking about him again! I don’t want to have my knees broken over Jerry Lewis. Do you understand you can be arrested for that? That is a real threat!”

The showbiz feud remain unresolved, with Jerry outliving his showbiz enemy when Joan
died a few months later on September 4, 2014, at the
age of 81. The angry older comedian remained unrepentant, too — continuing his mercurial ways that some say actually left him a Hollywood outcast in his final days!
