Dying Cher is hoping to Turn Back Time by having her virus-riddled body frozen with cryonics, an insider says — a process that holds the promise of bringing the dead back to life in the future!
The 72-year-old singer, who’s battled the life-draining Epstein-Barr virus for decades and other crippling illnesses, has “recently become obsessed with researching cryonics” — or deep-freezing your body once you’ve died. Click through the gallery above for the shocking exclusive details.

According to Osiris Cryonics, the process is a “second chance at life. Cryonics is an effort to save lives by using temperatures so cold that a person beyond help by today’s medicine might be preserved for decades or centuries until a future medical technology can restore that person to full health.”
The dead person’s blood is replaced with an antifreeze-type liquid and the body is placed head-down in a tank filled with liquid nitrogen that freezes the body to minus-320 degrees — preserving it until it can be revived with advanced medical science.

While Cher’s career has revived with her hit flick, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and her “Dancing Queen” album, she’s been battling Epstein-Barr since the 1980s as the condition — which ravages the heart and kidneys — leaves her bedridden, weak and depressed.
“She’s struggling every day to find the strength to carry on,” spills an insider.

Cher tried to beat the virus by flying to Germany for the controversial Regenokine blood replacement therapy.
She reportedly received 12-pint blood transfusions at the Black Forest clinic and felt a huge boost following the treatments. But the benefits have dwindled.
“You never really lose it,” says Cher of the virus. “And it really takes the life out of you.”

She’s also been put on brain-wave scan and heart monitors during a six-hour observation to discover any dangerous blockages in her arteries.
But her recent fixation with cryonics has pals freaked out — and it’s no wonder.
Arizona’s Alcor Life Extension Foundation, another cryonics lab, charges $200,000 to freeze a body or $80,000 for just the head.

Famed Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams’ noggin was chopped off and is being kept on ice at Alcor. But reports claim the can holding Ted’s head has been cracked several times through mishandling, though Alcor has denied any wrongdoing.
Now friends are stunned by the idea that Cher wants her corpse frozen.

“Everyone’s pretty horrified by it and laughs it off, saying she’s got a few years left in her to decide for sure, but you can tell she’s determined,” says the source.
“You can’t help but wonder if she’s finally going too far. Everyone supported her plastic surgery choices and obsession with looking decades younger.
“This sci-fi stuff is enough to give you the creeps. But Cher doesn’t want to turn to dust and disappear.”
