The bizarre fixation recently returned to light as
Priscilla Presley set out
to buy back a series of Elvis collectibles. One of her first purchases was the infamous pistol that Elvis repeatedly used to shoot any TV that showed the “Camelot” crooner's face — with plenty of witnesses who swore it's no urban legend!

Priscilla was even one of the first to back up the stories about Elvis' urge to kill — and dragged another star into the scandal! She wrote in her autobiography
that her troubled husband "hated the singing of Mel Torme and Robert Goulet, who he said were 'all technique and no emotion.' Their performances were responsible for Elvis blowing away two television sets with a .357 Magnum!"

Elvis' girlfriend
Linda Thompson had her own tales of Elvis shooting televisions — with Goulet also named as the artist most likely to get blasted! "We would be watching TV," she recalled, "and he might not like the singing of someone like Robert Goulet. Elvis would just say, 'Well, I'm tired of that,' and he would simply shoot it out."

Legendary talk show host Mike Douglas even got a call from The King after having Goulet on as a guest. "Elvis said, 'I want to apologize to you,'" confided Douglas in 1985. "'You know, I did shoot out a television set one day. I'm sorry because it was your show. I'm a big fan of yours. I watch all your shows. I just couldn't stand that silly Robert Goulet!"

Douglas hoped the apology would lead to Elvis visiting his show. That never happened, but the talk-show host later claimed to have learned the real reason that The King's kept gunning down Goulet. Showbiz insiders told him that the Broadway star had once swept in to romance one of Elvis' backup singers.

Mike Douglas and Robert Goulet can still thank Elvis for some infamy, though. The "Burning Love" singer was in a hotel room when he shot out the TV during "The Mike Douglas Show." As a result, the ruined television was saved as a souvenir — and it's been on display at a Graceland museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
