Elton John’s mother has passed away at 92 years old — after the rock legend desperately fought to end their longtime family feud over his gay marriage! Sheila Farebrother — who had remarried after her first marriage to Stanley Dwight — passed away on the morning of Dec. 3, with Elton, 70, writing: “I only saw her last Monday, and I am in shock. Travel safe, Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much.” It was a touching tribute, but only possible with the two having reconciled in May after Sheila blasted her son’s husband…

The National ENQUIRER revealed the family rift in 2015, when Sheila got into a bitter feud with her son over her friendship with Elton's former assistant Bob Halley, leading to Sheila blasting son-in-law David Furnish (at right). Elton "told me that I thought more of Bob than I did my own son," said Sheila. "To that, I said: 'And you think more of the f--king thing you're with than you're own mother!"

Elton had married David in 2014 after 11 years together, and they
later adopted two sons. Furious to hear his husband referred to as a "thing," Elton cut off all contact with his mother. "It was all so stupid, so petty," Sheila said, adding: "But I got used to it!" Sheila even mockingly celebrated her 90th birthday in March 2015 by hiring an Elton John impersonator.

As recently as 2016, Elton said: "I don't miss her," complaining about her taking their conflicts to the press. The star admitted that it was "pretty hard to take" when she'd say "things in the press, like, 'I haven’t spoken to Elton since he married that f--king a--hole David Furnish." He added:'I don’t hate my mother. I look after her, but I don’t want her in my life.’

Insiders revealed that Elton was finally inspired to reconcile with Sheila after he
suffered a life-threatening infection that left him hospitalized in South America during a tour. He was able to celebrate a final Mother's Day in May with Sheila, writing to her: "So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton."
