According to reports, singer Liza Minelli tripped on a step as she was leaving a hotel and broke her right kneecap, but plans to sing as scheduled in a charity concert.
In a statement released by a spokeswoman, Minelli was taken to a hospital, where her knee was set in a plaster cast.
“She remains in the hospital, but the show will go on.”
“She will leave the hospital ⦠to sing ‘New York, New York’ in a duet with Pavarotti. After the concert, she will return to the hospital to undergo a knee operation.”
“Liza is a brave, brave lady,” said her duet-mate Pavarotti. “I can’t say how indebted I am that this great artist will come to perform at our charity show ⦠after suffering such a painful fall.”
The concert, “Pavarotti and friends annual charity show” in Modena, Italy, is a benefit to raise money for Iraqi refugees.
