“Bruce dropped like a sack of potatoes and people were terrified that he had a heart attack!” an on-set spy told The National ENQUIRER. The “Die Hard” star fell while running on the set of his latest movie, “Motherless Brooklyn,” on Feb. 10 — and needed help from co-star Edward Norton to get up!

“This film should be called 'Grandpa’s Brooklyn,'” snorted a movie-industry insider. Set in the 1950s, the script was adapted from Jonathan Lethem's murder-mystery novel by Norton (right), who is also directing. “Old men should retire — at least from action roles."

Insiders blame his notorious history of hard-partying for his recent health woes. “It’s all taken a toll,” said a source close to the “Moonlighting” star. Bruce’s out-of-control drinking resulted in a DUI bust in the late ’80s, and in 1987 he was charged with assaulting a police officer — who came to break up a party at his Hollywood home!

“People are worried that his background of abusing his body may have been too much for his heart to take at his age,” the insider added. “He might end up killing himself if he keeps going at this pace.” Friends have begged Bruce, shown here with wife Emma Heming, to slow down in light of recent rumors that he may be displaying early signs of dementia!

Around the same time, Bruce made some troubling appearances on talk shows, in which he seemed completely unfocused and slow to respond.
