Prince Charles' fascination with
Barbra Streisand — but readers of
The National ENQUIRER already knew the randy royal was crazy about the Hollywood superstar. Christopher Andersen's “Game of Crowns” is a fascinating look at the royals, and includes a passage about the prince's "infatuation" — noting that Princess Diana "would not have been surprised if they had an affair."
The ENQUIRER had already caught Prince Charles mooning over Barbara on the set of "Funny Lady" back in 1974. By then — as "Game of Crowns" reveals — a smitten Prince Charles had already developed a major crush on the star of 1968's “Funny Girl.”

Charles even had framed photos of Barbra in his college dorm and his room at Buckingham Palace! The ENQUIRER was there when Charles took advantage of an offer for him to visit a Hollywood star while the Royal Naval officer — then 26 — was docked in San Diego.

Prince Charles quickly asked to meet the girl of his Hollywood dreams. "Game of Crowns" notes that he even joked about the choice with his personal valet. “I’m sure [the studio executives] thought I’d say Raquel Welch . . . Streisand is my only pinup!”

"What's a girl to do when a prince suddenly drops in on a coffee break?" asked The ENQUIRER. "Superstar Barbra Streisand had the answer when Britain's Prince Charles visited the Columbia Pictures' studios in Los Angeles, where Barbra was working on her latest movie "Funny Lady" recently. She offered him a sip from her mug . . . and the prince was happy to accept!"

The book also reveals that Barbra and the prince enjoyed a second chance to get together — after the movie star described the Prince as "nervous" and "tight-lipped" during their first meeting. As The ENQUIRER reported, author Andersen, who wrote a Barbra bio in 2006, had revealed that Charles joined the ranks of Barbra's secret lovers in the '90s!

The sources said that Barbra was already involved with future husband James Brolin at the time. The Prince of Wales, of course, was married to Lady Di. The spies said that the two still got together in a Los Angeles hotel suite for a "private tea."

Christopher Andersen already had top contacts among the royals. He quoted one insider as saying: "Charles was besotted with Barbra. Did anyone ever turn him down? Not to my knowledge."

"Game of Crowns" provides an exciting update, as well — revealing that, at another event 10 months later, a "housekeeper described Charles and Barbra as acting ‘quite flustered’ when she surprised them in Charles’ study."

The new book might come as a shock to Barbra's husband, but at least one famous couple will be happy that Andersen moved on to the royals. His earlier book also claimed Barbra had warmed up for Prince Charles by bedding
