The collection of letters has Audrey telling Felix about her hopes of a marriage to James coming to an end. “it is with a heavy heart that I am writing to tell you that James Hanson and I are no longer engaged," she told Felix. At the time, the date had already been set for Audrey's wedding.

And this typewritten letter shows Audrey's joy over the birth of son Sean after she finally married for the first time to Mel Ferrer. He was her first child after two previous miscarriages. Sadly, Sean would grow up to battle over his mother's estate with stepbrother Luca from her second marriage to psychiatrist Andrea Dotti — which finally broke up in 1982 over her husband's constant philandering. (Audrey, however, pursued costar Peter O'Toole.)

By the time of her divorce from Dotti, Audrey had began a long relationship with actor Robert Wolders. He would be caring for her as she passed away in 1993. Audrey was 63 years old when she lost her battle to cancer — but her legend (and handwriting) lives on with the Bonhams auction.
