Ailing addict Artie Lange’s art is mirroring his life — his last acting role was playing a hopeless self-hating junkie.
The smackhead comic played himself in Crashing, a series created by Judd Apatow about a struggling stand-up called Pete.

In one of latest episodes of the HBO show, Pete finds Artie slumped in a string vest at his grotty New York apartment after a heroin bender with a group of addicts.
Pete tells him: "You can’t be using," and asks: "I thought you were in recovery?"
Lange vows he would “never shoot up” with his junkie pals and insists he is “in recovery."

But later in the show, Lange fails to turn up at a comedy benefit organized by his pal Pete.
When Pete confronts him on the street about his absence, Lange whines he loathes himself and can’t help being an addict.
He says: “I guess I’m a piece of s--t. I’m done with this — I’m a piece of shit. I was out scoring. I was out buying drugs."
“There is no turning it around. I’m a heroin addict – I bulls--t people, that’s what I do."

“Moving in the right direction? Where were you when I was sweating from withdrawals? So, I had to go and do what I had to do."
“Struggling isn’t the word – it’s a physical thing. It’s a physical thing coming off heroin."
“I wish I could go back when a younger Artie did heroin in a f---ing hotel on the road. I wish I could tackle him and stop him doing it, but it's over… it’s just over.”

When Pete — played by comic Pete Holmes — asks him how his parents would feel about his addiction, Lange rages: “It’s creepy how much you care. Now you bring up dead f---ing relatives? F---k you — go do your fruity little comedy.”
Another comic tells Pete after his row with Lange there is “no helping him” as he “doesn’t want to stop."

The show was aired before Lange’s latest drugs meltdown.
He recently shared pictures of his deformed nose, blaming the misshapen conk on three decades of snorting cocaine and heroin.

In December, Lange appeared in a New Jersey court after he tested positive for cocaine but was spared jail time for violating his probation.
He is currently serving four years’ probation for heroin possession and was ordered to apply to drug court during his appearance at state Superior Court in Newark.
He said at his court appearance: “I wouldn’t be arrogant enough to come in here after using cocaine for two days. It’s in my system and it shouldn’t be.”
