Alex Trebek is ready for “Jeopardy” to go on without him — as the veteran game-show host prepares to leave the legendary game show that he took over in 1984. Alex told Harvey Levin on the FOX News show “OBJECTified” that he’s giving serious thought to retirement after his current contract ends in 2020, saying the odds of him leaving the show are “50/50, and a little less.” That’s after insiders said that some family members were eager fo Alex to give up the job in 2012! The veteran host wasn’t shy about recommending people as his replacement, either. Hollywood insiders, though, are saying that there’s already a major Hollywood star who’s dreaming of the “Jeopardy” job.

This isn't the first time that Alex has hinted at retirement — saying recently: “I’ve been hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ for 34 years, and I’ve been in the business for 56. So, that’s enough.” He's also had
a series of health scares that have had insiders begging Alex to start enjoying retirement before it's too late. In 2004, Alex was in a terrifying car crash when he “blacked out” behind the wheel. The Canadian TV veteran suffered heart attacks in 2007 and 2012, and underwent knee surgery in 2015.

In Dec. 16, surgeons even had to remove massive blood clots from Alex's brain during an operation at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Doctors said the operation was needed after a fall that Alex took in his home two months earlier, but the star brushed the surgery off as a “slight medical problem.”

Alex also already has two replacements in mind — suggesting political pundit Laura Coates and sportscaster Alex Faust. But, say Hollywood insiders,
Tom Hanks has also been looking at taking over for Trebek. The Oscar-winner has reportedly told pals that he's "always wanted to be up there asking the questions," and thinks the "Jeopardy" gig is a dream job for an aging movie star!
