Adam West hated being typecast as "Batman" — but he loved the attention of
being a sex symbol during the sexual revolution of the 1960s!

The
late star complained that the hit show ruined his career
, as Adam found himself helplessly typecast as a square when the hit show abruptly ended in 1968. But the respected actor enjoyed looking back at his life as a swinging single — and boasted that his female fans never stopped asking him to sign intimate body parts!

"I signed countless items of apparel and parts of women's anatomies when I felt reckless," he recalled in 1995. "To this day, I'm still surprised and a little disconcerted when I'm asked to sign a lady's bosom — though I usually go ahead and do it!"

Adam added that autographs weren't the only thing women were after during the height of his fame: "There was one assertive and enthusiastic female who was waiting in a stall in the men's room when I entered. 'Here?' I deadpanned. 'You'll have an audience.' Without missing a beat, she shot back, 'Maybe they'll throw money!'"

And while Batman's alter-ego was uptight millionaire Bruce Wayne, Adam was once booted out of a swinging sex party for having too much fun with "Batman" villain Frank Gorshin. "We walked into a party where clothing was unwelcome," he recalled. "After Frank and I got comfortable amid the sea of legs and breasts, I felt a little silly, so I began to do Batman."

"Somewhere across the room," Adam continued, "Frank became the Riddler, and it was so ridiculous in that setting that we couldn't stop laughing — we had the distinction of being thrown out of our first and only Hollywood orgy!"

Adam — who would settle down with his wife Marcelle in 1970 — also enjoyed some time with Hollywood starlets. Longtime friend
Natalie Wood even set him up for a sizzling fling with her
Bond Girl sister Lana. But not every date went as well — including what he thought would be an intimate moment when he finally scored a lunch date with "breathtaking"
Kim Novak.

During a midday break, West threw a robe over his costume and met Kim in a dark booth at a restaurant. The actress brought along her two dogs. "As we talked," West said, "I slipped my arm around her shoulders. There was a nip on my wrist, and it wasn't Kim. One of the dogs had given me a little proprietary warning. It must have been an amusing picture to the other customers: Kim Novak, two snarling dogs, and me in a bathrobe enjoying lunch."
