DAVID LETTERMAN “Late Show” bandleader/sidekick PAUL SHAFFER hit the perfect note of loyalty when a creep started loudly heckling him with vicious “Dirty Ol’ Dave” jabs during a New York bookstore signing for his new autobio, “We’ll Be Here for the Rest of Our Lives.”
Chatting and laughing with hundreds of fans who showed up, affable Shaffer grimaced but said nothing when the loudmouth suddenly yelled: “Hey Paul…did you write about Dave’s sexual encounters in your book?”
When Shaffer didn’t take the bait, the jerk persisted, shouting: “Do you guys team up and do the girls together?”
Visibly furious, the usually mild-mannered conductor started screaming curses at the creep, then called for security guards, who quickly bum-rushed the bum to the street.
