STARS RALLY TO PROMOTE NEW YORK TOURISM

Due to the attacks on September 11 in New York, the city has suffered a decline in tourism. To help remedy the situation, major celebrities such as Billy Crystal, Robert DeNiro, Barbara Walters and more will appear in pro-New York commercials designed to boost the tourist industry.

One such spot includes Billy Crystal dressed up as a turkey for his role in the Thanksgiving Day parade along with Robert DeNiro as a Pilgrim.

Other commercials include Barbara Walters singing badly on Broadway, Yogi Berra conducting the New York Philharmonic, and Henry Kissinger making his way around the bases at Yankee Stadium.

In one of the ads, a woman in a deli where the sandwiches are named after celebrities orders a Ben Stiller with bacon. When the waiter yells out her order to the kitchen, who walks out but Ben Stiller — accompanied by Kevin Bacon.

“The new public service campaign was created to show how that spirit inspired others — some of the city’s best-known personalities — to pursue their dreams, though with a decidedly humorous twist,” said Mayor Giuliani.

Each one ends with a message from Giuliani: “The New York miracle. Be a part of it.”

The advertisements will air nationwide.
