James Doohan, who played Scotty on the original Star Trek TV series and movies has died at the age of 85. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer’s disease. Doohan was born in Canada and was a master at dialects. He was allowed to choose the dialect of his character on Star Trek, and decided the starship’s engineer should be a Scot.
