John Travolta and Queen Latifah will star in the musical remake of Hairspray, according to Variety. Travolta will don a dress to play housewife Edna Turnblad while Latifah plays Motormouth Maybelle, a civil rights activist and dance show host in the 1962-set musical. The film is expected to be released in the summer of 2007. A nationwide search is on to find a fresh face for Tracy Turnblad, the chubby teen played by Ricki Lake in the original film and by Marissa Jaret Winokur in the Tony-winning stage musical.
