A worried JENNIFER ANISTON is rallying DEMI MOORE’s A-list pals to intervene before the distraught “Ghost” star starves herself to death, insiders say.
The former “Friends” beauty – who worked with Demi recently on the Lifetime project “Five” – decided to step in after Demi withered away to a skeletal 90 pounds in the wake of hubby Ashton Kutcher’s cheating scandal, the sources add.
“Jen and Demi have known each other for years, but they got much closer while doing promotional work for ‘Five,’” an insider divulged.
“Jen watched Demi go from fun-loving, confident and outgoing to withdrawn, depressed and bone-thin. Her main concern is that Demi has stopped eating and she is determined to see her get back on a healthy path, eating nutritious foods. She’s even offered to send over her personal chef.”
Determined to save her pal from her downward spiral, Jen approached Demi with actresses Salma Hayek and Lucy Liu, who are also close to the troubled star, said the source.
“Jen, Salma and Lucy told Demi thatshe needs professional counseling in addition to the guidance she’s getting from Kabbalah,” said the source. “They’ve also strongly urged her to hire a nutritionist and personal trainer.
“It’s an intervention to build Demi back up into the vibrant, vital person she once was.”
Demi’s world collapsed after 33-year-old Ashton’s affair with blonde party girl Sara Leal, 23, exploded. Their hot-tub night of passion in September was the last straw in the couple’s six-year marriage, which has long been plagued by rumors of his cheating.
Shortly after the scandal broke, a devastated Demi, 49, looked alarmingly thin at the Oct. 17 premiere of her movie “Margin Call,” and on Nov. 17 she announced plans to divorce the “Two and a Half Men” star. Since then, rumors have run rampant that she’s in rehab.
Ex-husband Bruce Willis and their three daughters have supported Demi, but Bruce and the girls left her alone during the Thanksgiving holiday to go to Paris for 17-year-old Tallulah’s society debut at Le Bal des Debutantes.
Demi bravely tried to present an upbeat demeanor by tweeting: “Why do we have only 1 day for giving thanks? Is that why so many people feel unappreciated? Make this 1 of 365 days of Thanksgiving!”
But Jen, who insists she’s now happy with her actor/screenwriter beau Justin Theroux, knows how badly Demi is really hurting, noted the source.
“When Brad Pitt left her for Angelina Jolie, Jen sank to the depths of despair,” the source confided. “But with the help of her close friends, Jen put the pieces of her life back together. Now she’s helping Demi do the same.
“Jen checks in on Demi regularly. She’s been calling her in the morning with cheery greetings like, ‘Rise and shine, sunshine!’ She recently invited Demi to come over to her house for a private yoga session.
“Jen even suggested that she and Demi take a girls-only vacation to Cabo San Lucas. Demi is lucky to have Jen in her corner. Now that the chips are down, she’s learning who her real friends are – and Jen is at the top of that list!”
