“Vampire Diaries” stars IAN SOMERHALDER and NINA DOBREV are taking another bite out of love – and the duo have their shared love of dogs to thank for the reconciliation.
Their romance fizzled in May after more than three years of dating, but they reunited off-screen in October when Nina helped Ian’s dog Nietzsche give birth to puppies. “Nina fell in love with Nietzsche’s puppies,” disclosed a close source.
“She kept coming around to check on the dogs, and that’s when she and Ian realized they still carried torches for each other.”
The Bulgaria-born beauty ended her six-week rebound romance with “Dancing with the Stars” pro Derek Hough just days after Nietzsche gave birth to eight puppies on Oct 8th.
Soon after, Nina posted a cute photo online with the caption: Birthing little Nietzsches… Such a beautiful (and) equally terrifying thing to witness. The miracle of life…”
Ironically, Ian, 35, and Nina, 24, broke up because he wanted to get married, have kids and settle down, but she said she wasn’t ready for that type of commitment.
“After playing ‘mom’ to the little pups, Nina is rethinking her anti- marriage stance,” revealed the source.
Observers say the two are now spending time together in Atlanta, where they’re shooting the fifth season of their hit CW show.
“Co-parenting the dogs with Ian helped Nina realize what a great dad he would be,” said the source. “She never really saw that nurturing side of him before.”
