Talk about a strong supporter. Pamela Anderson paid a visit to Belmarsh Prison in London to see Julian Assange on Tuesday, May 7. After spending time with the WikiLeaks founder, she gave a statement to press, during which she shared her feelings for Assange.
“He does not deserve to be in a super max prison,” the former Baywatch bombshell insisted. “He has never committed a violent act. He is an innocent person!”
She went on to add that Assange — whom she’s been rumored to have romanced due to her multiple visits over the years — is cut off from the world, including his kids. “He hasn’t access to a library, computer, or any information,” Anderson, 51, told reporters. “He’s really cut off from everybody. He hasn’t been able to speak to his children.”
“He needs all the support he can get. Justice will depend on public support,” the actress said before diving into her feelings for the man. “He’s a good man. He’s an incredible person. I love him. I can’t imagine what he’s been going through.”
Anderson, who is currently dating French soccer player Adil Rami, concluded her statement by declaring that the treatment of Assange is a “misrule of law and operation. It is absolute shock!”
Wikileaks editor in chief Kristinn Hrafnsson was with the actress and Assange during the visit, and according to CNN, said the two were “quite emotional.”
Assange, 47, is currently at Belmarsh after being dragged from London’s Ecuadorian Embassy in April after he exhausted his welcome during his seven-year stay.
“We’ve ended asylum of this spoiled brat,” Lenin Moreno, president of Ecuador, said at the time. “From now on, we’ll be more careful in giving asylum to people who are really worth it, and not miserable hackers whose only goal is to destabilize governments.”
According to the Associated Press, the tiny country was footing the nearly $1 million-a-year bill to put Assange up in the embassy as he tried to evade extradition to Sweden for alleged sex crimes. While under the protection of Ecuador, Assange reportedly smeared feces on the walls, harassed people who were taking care of him, and more.
During his stay at Ecuador’s Embassy, Anderson paid him multiple visits — and some of them were reportedly conjugal trysts. An insider dished to The National ENQUIRER some of their romps were caught on camera, and now, the actress — whose sex tape with ex-husband Tommy Lee leaked in the ‘90s — fears the world will have even more to see.
“Now that [Assange has] been arrested, she is concerned that footage of them together will be released,” snitched the insider of the actress, who a source said once wanted a child with the WikiLeaks founder. “The tape is being offered for cash, but if no money is forthcoming, then the people behind it could just release it for free.”
