Presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain are going toe-to-toe in two comics published by IDW Publishing.

IDW, the San Diego publisher best known for robots (Transformers) and Niles-baiting vampire tales (30 Days of Night) have gone political – with a vengeance.

Trading sound bites for word balloons, this isn’t Luke Cage Hero-for-Hire walloping The Super Patriot for 28 pages of slam-bang action.

These are larger than life graphic novel biographies – like good ol’ Classics Illustrated — only with politics and a lot snazzier storytelling.

"We’re not doing anything that is sensational here," revealed IDW special projects editor Scott Dunbier. "We’re sticking to the facts."

The two comics are Presidential Material: Barack Obama and Presidential Material: John McCain.

In addition to the print format, both volumes will be available for download and on the mobile internet.

"Comic books really do have the great potential to inform and teach and do more than just standard superhero comics," Dunbier stated.
