PREVIOUSLY: A surprising new poll reveals that Donald Trump has a good chance to become the next president of the United States!

The billionaire real estate mogul and star of The Apprentice admits even he’s stunned by the news that he was favored by 40 percent of likely voters, compared to Barack Obama’s 43 percent, in a recent survey conducted by Newsweek/Daily Beast.

The amazing groundswell of support emerging across America for DONALD TRUMP’s potential run for president is not only the result of the popularity of the billionaire real estate mogul – but it’s also from the hard work of an independent website responsible for orchestrating a grass roots movement!

In a NATIONAL ENQUIRER web exclusive, we’ve tracked down the man who created the Internet sensation – www.shouldtrumprun.com.

He’s Michael Cohen, who works as Trump’s Executive Vice President and Special Counsel.

Cohen told us he decided to launch the "independent" website – which he points out was not commissioned by Trump – after some public opinion polls late last year seemed to favor Trump’s chances.

In an exclusive interview with The ENQUIRER website on Wednesday, Cohen said:  "After a series of standing ovations at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in early February, citizens by the hundreds of thousands are asking the trillion dollar question, Will Donald Trump run for the Presidency in 2012?

"In my view, the answer is a resounding YES!"

Cohen continued: "Donald Trump should run. For this reason, I created the independent site www.shouldtrumprun.com to orchestrate a grass roots movement of like minded people that want to put this country back on the right direction.

"The current leadership of our great country has taken us off track and sold our future to foreign interests. Instead of promoting ideas to improve our nations ailing economy and staggering unemployment numbers they create stimulus packages that squander our already limited resources.

"With over 400,000 people already joining www.shouldtrumprun.com, the message from these frustrated Americans is united: we want Donald Trump as our President because only he can use his tested experiences and business acumen to restore America as the world’s leading economic super power.

"If we are to return to greatness, we need a leader who will be unafraid to tell Americans the honest truth on where we stand today. Instead of bowing to foreign kings and apologizing to dignitaries for our super power status, we need a new President who will ensure that America becomes respected again.

"As a self made man and one of the worlds most successful businessmen in history, Mr. Trump knows how to get things done… far beyond the gifted oratory skills of a community organizer," Cohen added.

Cohen launched his website with the help of Stewart Rahr, Bradley Gerstman and David Schwartz.

In an exclusive interview with The ENQUIRER for our print edition in December, Trump said he was ready to tap his personal fortune of more than $6 billion to finance a run at the White House.

"If you’re not prepared to use your own money, then you’re not prepared to run for office!" he declared.

The 64-year-old, three-times-married father of five has been harshly critical of the Obama administration and told The ENQUIRER he’d decide whether to toss his hat into the ring by July – but some published reports now say he has moved up his timetable to June.

Added Cohen during his exclusive interview with The ENQUIRER’s website, "Join me and the countless others around the country to support and encourage Mr. Trump to run for President in 2012. Please go to our website at www.shouldtrumprun.com and get involved today!"
