The extremes JON VOIGHT will go to get closer to daughter ANGELINA JOLIE – now he’s sucked LIEV SCHRIEBER into the drah-ma!
OSCAR winner Jon Voight is so desperate to forge a closer bond with his daughter Angelina Jolie that he’s pleading with his “Ray Donovan” co-star Liev Schreiber to help, say sources.
But Liev, who co-starred with Angelina in “Salt,” is not eager to take on the role of go-between for the two, who have had a stormy relationship since Voight divorced Angelina’s mom when she was a small child.
“Liev has known Jon for a long time, but he doesn’t want to get in the middle of any family drama,” revealed a friend.
The 45-year-old actor became Angie’s pal when they worked together on the 2010 thriller “Salt,” and there is a sequel in the works. Meanwhile, Voight, 74, plays the jailbird dad of Schreiber’s title character in “Ray Donovan,” the new Showtime hit, which became the network’s highest rated premiere when it debuted June 30.
“Jon has been subtly nudging Liev to put in a good word for him,” revealed the source. “He says, ‘Tell Angelina what a dream I am to work with!’”
In 2010, Voight managed to mend fences with his daughter after a nearly 10-year estrangement. But they’re still not close. In fact, Voight was said to be deeply hurt because Angelina, 38, didn’t even tell him about her decision to have a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year.
“Jon told Liev that ‘the door is only halfway open’ between Angie and him,” said the friend.
But an insider notes: “There’s nothing Liev can do or say to make Angie warm up more to her dad.”
