JANE FONDA takes lead in new series as CEO of 24 hour Cable News Network — just like ex-hubby TED TURNER!

Jane has booked a recurring role on HBO's news-oriented drama “More as This Story Develops” from writer/producer Aaron (“The Social Network”)  Sorkin, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

Jane joins an ensemble of high profile thesps, including Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer.

The series which is set at a 24-hour cable news network, Fonda will play Leona Lansing, the CEO of the cable news network's parent company “whose ideals often clash with the news outlet she oversees”,  TV Line reported.

The ENQUIRER had previously reported that Robert F. Kennedy, J.R. ’s daughter, Kathleen  “Kick” Kennedy, would be making her acting debut on the show.

"First of all, I like the idea of a regular job," Jane said.

"And second, I like the idea of comedy about an older woman."

In addition to being married to CNN founder Ted Turner, Jane played a TV news reporter in The China Syndrome so she’s no stranger to the Fourth Estate.

The HBO series launches in September.
