James Caan is pleading for a break in divorce court — saying he's in bad health and making worse movies!
The veteran film star, 75, filed court papers saying: "I am no longer willing to take parts in films and/or television shows which detract from the 50 years I have spent building my reputation."
It's the latest cruel twist in his long troubled marriage to Linda Caan — with this being their third split, and The ENQUIRER covering their first attempted divorce back in 2005!
James was probably in better shape back then, though — and he wants the divorce court judge to know that he's no longer able to work long hours on film and television sets!
"I have suffered from numerous medical ailments over the last 18 months," said James, "which has added extraordinary financial pressures and have left me in poor health."
James is also smarting over his recent turn in the schlock horror movie "Sicilian Vampire."
The magazine Vanity Fair did an article about the low-budget production and mocked the aging big-name star for being desperate enough to appear in the vampire flick.
"As Professor Bernard Isaacs," said the Vanity Fair reporter, "Caan's task is to conduct a blood test and wait for [the film's star] to feed him lines; at times, he appears confused as to where his next cue is coming from."
To his credit, though, James still seems determined to spend time with his 17-year-old son James, and notes that he's paying big bucks to support two of his sons.
Linda is his fourth wife — and, in another cruel twist to the divorce, it appears that he still married her without having a prenuptial agreement.
