There’s gonna be some heartache tonight for Eagles fans: Glenn Frey, a founding member of the rock band, died today at 67, according to a publicist for the band.

“Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia,” read a statement on the Eagles’ official website.

The six-time Grammy-winning Eagles had to cancel their planned appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors on Dec. 6. The group had planned on having Glenn, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt all attend next year. At the time, the band issued a statement saying Glenn “has had a recurrence of previous intestinal issues, which will require major surgery and a lengthy recovery period.”

Glenn was forced to miss part of a reunion tour with Don in 1986 due to intestinal problems. He had a portion of his intestine removed in 1990. He was also forced to take a break from the Eagles’ “Hell Freezes Over” reunion tour in 1994 because of diverticulitis.

Glenn co-wrote and sang on many of the Eagles’ most memorable hits, including including “Take It Easy,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” and “Heartache Tonight.” He and Don penned the legendary “Hotel California.”

After the Eagles broke up in 1980, Glenn launched a solo career that included the hits “The Heat Is On” and “You Belong to the City,” as well a role on the TV sensation “Miami Vice.”
