Gladys Knight has her fans hoping for the best after the soul legend revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer — while attending the funeral of Aretha Franklin, who’d tragically wasted away from the same affliction!
Gladys, 74, casually made the troubling statement while talking to Detroit news network WDIV-TV, discussing her final days spent with the dying diva.
“We shared the fact that we have the same disease,” said Gladys, without revealing when she had the diagnosis, or if she was still in the midst of a cancer battle.
The seven-time Grammy winner is known as “The Empress of Soul,” and the casual revelation has startled fans — especially since Gladys made a stunning appearance at the Grammy Awards just five months ago!
In a statement later the same day, Gladys issued a statement saying: “I’d like to clarify that Aretha and I discussed both of us having cancer — mine was stage 1 breast cancer and hers was pancreatic. Due to early detection, I am cancer free and grateful for that.”
