Rep confirms Exclusive ENQUIRER report that "TAXI" star JEFF CONAWAY is hospitalized in a brain dead coma caused by an overdose of pain pills.

The ENQUIRER also reports exclusively that in Conway’s final desperate moments not even JOHN TRAVOLTA could save his drug-plagued “Grease” co-star "Kanicki".

“John had been desperately trying to get Jeff into rehab,” Vikki Lizzi, the longtime girlfriend of the “Taxi” star, told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview.

But Travolta could not rescue his troubled pal – and Conaway, 60, was declared brain-dead after overdosing on painkillers on May 10.

Vikki revealed the heartbreaking details of the tragic day Conaway – who was addicted to cocaine, painkillers and alcohol for many years – relapsed and fell into a coma.

“He told me that he wasn’t feeling well,” Vikki, his girlfriend of seven years, told The ENQUIRER.

Although the stricken star would not admit to using drugs, he told Vikki in the last words she would hear from him: “I’m not feeling well. I’m scared.”

Vikki immediately rushed him to the emergency room of a hospital in Encino, Calif.

“After what seemed like forever, a doctor came out and said, ‘Vikki, I’m sorry, but he’s probably not going to make it,’” Vikki revealed.

“He was on a ventilator with a tube going into his heart. It was heartbreaking.”

Conaway was one of TV’s most well-known male sex symbols during the run of the highly rated “Taxi” comedy series from 1978-81.

But younger audiences are more familiar with Conaway’s 2008 appearance on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.”  Wheelchair bound Conqway mumbled incoherently – his once-handsome looks ravaged by substance abuse.

The troubled thesp is still recovering from the serious injuries he suffered last year in a near-fatal fall that caused a brain hemorrhage, and neck and hip fractures.
