DESIGN ICON McQUEEN SUICIDE

description

Famed fashionista, Alexander McQueen, who dressed Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker and other A-listers slays self.

Official cause of death has not been determined but reports say the fashion wunderkind, 40, was found hanging in his London flat.

Scotland Yard detectives said the death would not be" treated as suspicious.

McQueen’s death comes a week after the death of his beloved mum Joyce and three years since close pal Isbella Blow who plucked him from fashion obscurity and made him a star killed herself.   Blow committed suicide May 2007 after taking an overdose of weed killer after a diagnosis of untreatable ovarian  cancer.

Openly gay, McQueen once described himself as the ‘pink sheep of the family’. He married longtime partner, filmmaker George Forsyth in the summer of 2000.

A rep from the House of McQueen’s office said, "At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with family."

"McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs," Alexandra Shulmann, editor of UK Vogue, told media.

Celebs flocked to McQueen’s runway spectaculars.  The shows seemed  more bizarre performance art than ready-to-wear because of the designer’s flair for over-the-top drama and baroque lighting.  House of McQueen openings were de rigeur during the Paris  fashion week.
