Music legend David Bowie is dead from cancer at the age of 69 — putting an end to one of rock ‘n roll’s best kept secrets!

“David had already been working with a very close-knit crew over the years,” an insider told The ENQUIRER.

“He was determined to produce one final album before he passed, and refused to make his final years about death!

“David relied on his longtime record producer Tony Visconti to keep his illness a secret while recording his new album ‘Blackstar” — even while Tony put together a Bowie tribute band!”

Bowie’s son, movie director Duncan Jones (born with the name of Zowie Bowie) confirmed David’s passing with a statement:

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.”

The rock legend — known for hits like “Fame,” “Golden Years,” “Let’s Dance,” and “Under Pressure” — had released his final album, “Blackstar” on his 69th birthday — just four days ago on January 8, 2016.

The album was produced by Visconti, who had spent the weekend performing David Bowie songs in concert with his tribute band Holy Holy.

“There was never a mention from the stage that David was in his final hours,” said one concert attendee.

“It was just a heartfelt celebration from longtime Bowie band members whose hearts must have been breaking!”

Tributes began to pour in from other rock icons.

Kanye West said that Bowie was “one of [his] most important inspirations,” while Madonna declared that she was “devastated.”
